About the Work

Bob Holmes ARE creates richly layered images in which figures, flora, fauna and landscapes come together to form imagined worlds that feel both familiar and strange.

Working across digital collage, painting and printmaking, his practice explores humanity’s complicated relationship with the natural world, alongside recurring themes of mythology, memory and the passage of time. Elements drawn from different places, periods and visual traditions are combined through a process of layering, fragmentation and revision, allowing unexpected relationships and narratives to emerge.

Beauty plays an important role in the work, drawing the viewer into images that gradually reveal quieter tensions beneath the surface. Rather than offering a single fixed meaning, the work invites closer looking and leaves space for ambiguity, personal interpretation and unexpected connections.
