The Symbolism of Flight
In Flight: I explore ideas of liberation, transcendence, and the human impulse to move beyond earthly limits. The motif of flight has long fascinated artists, not only as physical movement through space, but as a reflection of the soul’s search for freedom, transformation, and meaning. For me, flight becomes a metaphor for the desire to rise above constraint and see the world from new perspectives. Wings, whether visible or implied, carry associations with mythology, spirituality, and the enduring human pursuit of what lies beyond the material.
In this work, I use flight to suggest transformation and inner movement. The act of rising speaks to aspiration and possibility, while the tension between elevation and gravity reflects the struggle between instinct and awareness. Through layered imagery, I seek to evoke a space where symbolic meaning remains open, inviting reflection rather than fixed interpretation.

Art Historical Influences
My approach draws on a range of art historical influences that shape the work’s visual language. I am inspired by Surrealism, particularly its dreamlike imagery and its challenge to rational perception. The unexpected juxtapositions and symbolic elements in my compositions reflect an interest in the subconscious and the strange logic of dreams.
I also look to Symbolist traditions, where mythological and fantastical imagery expresses inner emotional and spiritual states. Their emphasis on suggestion and ambiguity informs my own focus on atmosphere and resonance rather than direct representation. I am interested in how images can gesture toward meaning rather than define it.
The use of collage connects my work to early modernist experimentation. By combining disparate elements, I explore processes of disruption, reconstruction, and transformation. Digital methods extend these practices, allowing me to layer forms and associations in ways that expand the expressive potential of collage.

The Digital Medium as Contemporary Expression
Working digitally allows me to merge painting and collage within a fluid visual space. I use digital tools to build layered compositions that honour traditional artistic concerns while embracing contemporary possibilities. This medium offers precision and flexibility, enabling me to construct complex symbolic relationships and subtle visual tensions.
Through this work, I aim to create a dialogue between past and present, drawing from historical traditions while responding to contemporary modes of image-making. Ultimately, my practice reflects enduring human concerns, the search for freedom, transcendence, and meaning, expressed through the evolving language of digital art.
